What is the Notre Dame Men’s Rowing experience like?
Our team is made up of highly competitive and driven individuals. While rowing has been around at Notre Dame since the late 19th century, the team officially formed in 1965. Since then, we have strived to represent Notre Dame to the best of our abilities.
The team rows out of the McConnell Family Boathouse, which opened in the spring of 2016 and is located 1.5 miles south of campus on the St. Joseph River. The river provides 5,500 meters of sheltered, uninterrupted water, giving the team more than enough space to train. The boathouse stores our fleet of Empacher and Hudson eights and fours, which are supplemented with small boats. In addition, the upstairs of the boathouse has an open area filled with ergs and a fully equipped locker room for our athletes.
The team competes around the country every year, with races in Boston, San Diego, and Oak Ridge all making regular appearances. In addition, the team is currently exploring options to establish trips to the Henley Royal Regatta. We seek out the best competition we can find and train to set ourselves up for success.
Your experience on the team will allow you to continue to develop your technical, physiological, and mental capabilities. Many members of the team have gone on to compete for seats and race internationally. With a focus and emphasis on athlete development, there is no limit to your rowing career both during and after your time at Notre Dame.
